How to get a rotation at the UW Department of Pediatrics:
- Application
- The Pedatric Medical Student Office cannot process your request until you have applied and been accepted by the UWSOM Visiting Student Program
- Please go to: UW Visiting Student Program
- NOTE: if you intend to do a Sub-I you need to include a current CV and one letter of recommendation in your application.
- Once your application has been processed through their office, the UWSOM Visiting Student Program will forward it to the Pediatric Medical Student Office
- Just because your application has been approved by the visiting student office, does not mean you are guaranteed a space in a PEDS rotation.
- The application requires you to list the rotations that you want to do. The Medical Student Office is happy to provide information on the available rotations for the time that you request.
- Registration
- Visiting students cannot register for a course UNTIL 6 weeks prior to the start date of their desired rotation
- Six weeks prior to the start of the requested rotation, it is the student's responsibility to contact the Pediatric Medical Student Office to find out what is available and to request registeration.
- It is best if you have flexible dates to do a rotation. For example, if you want to do a rotation in August, you may not get one, but if you are also willing to call me again for a September or October rotation, you stand a better chance of getting a rotation.
- Courses
- Availability
- Rotations between July and October are usually very hard to get into
- Less than half of applicants get a rotation on the dates they request
- If you cannot get into a rotation, you may want to think about doing a rotation later in the year. December through May are excellent times.
- SUB-Is
- Sub-Is are much sought after and hard to get
- If you can't get one early in the year, January through May is the best time to try for one
- NOTE: You need to include a current CV and one letter of recommendation in your application for all Sub-I rotaitons.
- Location
- All PEDS rotations are done at Seattle Children's except for PEDS 669 and PEDS 679
- PEDS 669 & 679 are held at the UW Medical Center
- For information on the rotations we offer:
- Staying in Seattle
- Interviews
- Many, many, many of our residents did not do a rotation here at Children's. If you don't get a rotation here, it does not lower your chances of getting an interview.
- Confirmation
- You are guaranteed a spot only after you receive a confirmation of registion from the Medical Student Office
- Once you are confirmed
