Dr. Gibson attended the University of Washington for undergraduate studies, and Washington University in St. Louis for his graduate degrees. He completed Pediatric Residency training and a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology at the University of Washington/CHRMC. Dr. Gibson has been on faculty since 1988. He is committed to excellent, multi-disciplinary patient care, thrives on “small group” teaching, and is passionate about research and the acquisition of new knowledge.
Dr. Gibson is the director of the Pediatric Pulmonary fellowship program and director of the Seattle Cystic Fibrosis Center. His primary research focus is on Pseudomonas aeruginosa airway infections in young children with cystic fibrosis (funded in part by the NIH and the CF Foundation). As a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutic Development Network, he has been the principal investigator or co-investigator for several Phase I and Phase II clinical trials involving novel antimicrobial agents, anti-inflammatory compounds, gene therapy, and modulators of ion transport. He also collaborates with divisional colleagues and faculty in the Department of Medicine on single-center CF research studies. The University of Washington has a rich clinical and research foundation, and we are fortunate to be aligned with a CF Research Development Program and a Core Center for Gene Therapy.
