Services

The inpatient pulmonary service is staffed 24 hrs-day by a pulmonary attending physician. Inpatient pulmonary consultative services available 24-hrs/day.

We have a nurse available by telephone from 0830-1600 during the weekdays (ph #:206-987-2174 and then follow the phone tree). This service is for patients/families who have been seen and evaluated by our pulmonary division health care providers.

Pulmonary Function Testing services:
Technical Director, David Stamey RRT
Medical Director, Dr. Margaret Rosenfeld, MD, MPH.

The Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Seattle Children’s Hospital is a full-service pediatric lung function testing facility. The lab offers the following tests: pre- and post-bronchodilator spirometry, exercise-induced bronchospasm evaluation, plethysmography, diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide, hypoxic challenge (to assess the need for oxygen during airplane travel), and maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (measures of diaphragmatic strength), airways resistance measurements with the Rint device, and exhaled nitric oxide measurements.

Since 2003, we have offered infant lung function testing under sedation for children 4 months to 3 years of age. Tests currently under development or evaluation include methacholine challenge and measures of airway resistance with the forced oscillation technique.
