Computer science is transforming all aspects of our lives, and driving our nation's economy. In the face of this, it is startling to recognize that the real computing and communications revolution still lies ahead - "you ain't seen nothing yet." This talk will describe recent progress and future opportunities in the field. It will also spend a bit of time on the special role of research universities in a field where there is so much money to be made. Computer science continues to be a field full of intellectual action, a field with unmatched roles, responsibilities, and opportunities.
