About the School
Mission and Vision for the Future The University of Washington School of Pharmacy is nationally recognized as an innovative leader in pharmacy education, scholarship, and research. Our students are among the best and the brightest and continue to be an influential force long after graduation. The pharmacy profession has experienced a renaissance of sorts over the past decade and continues to become an increasingly diverse, integrated and dynamic field of practice with interdisciplinary opportunities and expanded practice scopes. The school takes great pride in sustaining a high quality and progressive curriculum to meet the expanding needs of our students and has been richly rewarded with graduates that go on to be leaders in their fields. School Vision The school strives to be recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in pharmacy education, research and service that partners effectively with others in society to promote the discovery, development and appropriate use of medications for the health, welfare, and safety of the public. Foundations and Values Our school is an inclusive community that fosters an environment that advances our goals and enables us to take active roles in both local and global initiatives that relate to our overall mission. We are committed to a culture that embraces excellence, is open, ethical, collaborative, respects diversity of thought, and encourages diversity among its faculty, staff and students. More specifically, we are committed to a culture that respects and 1) reflects contemporary pharmacy practice and the vision for its future, 2) fosters collaboration and good morale among and between administration, faculty, staff, alumni and students, 3) fosters involvement in mission-related matters of the pharmacy and health care communities and society in general, 4) supports meeting the varied needs of student learners and preparing them for the continuum of lifelong education, 5) supports postgraduate professional education and training of pharmacists, 6) supports continuing professional development of faculty, staff, preceptors, alumni and other pharmacists, 7) supports the educational and scholarly maturation and mentoring of new faculty, 8) fosters innovation, professionalism, ethical behavior, leadership and scholarship, 9) encourages diversity of both faculty and students, 10) supports meeting the needs of diverse stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, staff, students, preceptors, alumni and others, 11) attaches importance to scientific advancement, 12) promotes development of interprofessional learning and collaborative practice, and 13) embraces quality assurance and continuous quality improvement. |
