Graduate Programs Graduate Program in Medicinal Chemistry The general objective of graduate training in medicinal chemistry is to provide the student with a solid background in the discipline and an in-depth experience in a specific area of research. Research in medicinal chemistry encompasses a broad spectrum of activities including studies pursuant to investigations of the interaction of both drugs and toxic substances with biological systems, and the relationship of chemical structure and dynamics to biological effect and function. Graduate Program in Pharmaceutics This program trains research scholars in the fundamental aspects of drug delivery, drug disposition, and drug action in animals and man. Drug disposition includes the facets of drug absorption, distribution, and elimination. Pharmacokinetics is the study of the time course of these processes and the time course of pharmacological effects. Drug delivery includes targeting of drugs and modulation of xenobiotic and drug transporters to tissues or specific cell types to improve their therapeutic effect. Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Outcomes Research & Policy Pharmaceutical outcomes research employs economic and epidemiologic methods to evaluate clinical outcomes, morbidity, quality of life, and cost-effectiveness. The graduate program in pharmaceutical outcomes research and policy trains students in economic evaluation, pharmacoepidemiology, health services research, and pharmaceutical policy formulation and evaluation. |
