News & Events Join us for the 29th Annual Don B. Katterman Lecture
The Katterman Lecture series has always stood for improved patient care through the efforts of concerned, prepared, and enlightened pharmacists and other members of a health care team. Year after year attendees rank the UW Pharmacy Alumni Association’s Annual Katterman Lecture as one of the top Continuing Education programs in the Northwest and this year will be no different. As pharmacists and their staff prepare to take on new roles in disease prevention and medication management in an era of massive prescription volumes and costs, it’s apparent that this revolution in pharmacy practice affects all of us in many ways. Everyone, it seems, is talking about Medicare Part D, Mirixa™, Outcomes Pharmaceutical Health Care™, and how crucial it is for pharmacists to find ways to be part of a patient’s medication therapy management team. Some pharmacists have seen the benefits and have chosen to get involved while others have decided to continue to do what they’ve always done in pharmacy practice. It’s time to wake up! Our country and our state’s employers are becoming increasingly aware of how pharmacist-driven healthcare services can lower healthcare costs, decrease the number of hospitalizations and employee sick-days taken, all the while improving employee wellness and productivity. Some companies have already put contracts in place and more are on their way. Come to this year’s Katterman Lecture to hear from John Miall, who, as the risk manager for the City of Asheville, North Carolina, hypothesized that pharmacists working in concert with other providers could dramatically lower his city’s healthcare costs and improve employee productivity. The results have been phenomenal and long-lasting. Whether it is managing diabetes, asthma or cardio-vascular care/prevention, the positive clinical and economic impact of their pharmacist-driven healthcare program is legendary. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 12th, 2008 to attend this year’s Katterman Lecture with Mr. Miall and local pharmacists who are leading the efforts to change our local healthcare delivery paradigms. This lecture is not only open to pharmacists but also to self-insured employers from around Washington so that they might discover a new way to promote healthier employees and decrease healthcare costs.
