UW Department of Pharmacy - Pharmacy Management Program

Pharmacy Management Program

The Pharmacy Management Program is an interdisciplinary program offered through the Schools of Business and Pharmacy. It is designed to prepare pharmacy students for pharmacy ownership and for management positions in community pharmacies, institutional pharmacies and retail chain organizations. Participants complete courses in marketing, human resource management, accounting, and pharmacy management as well as a full-time paid summer management internship in one of the collaborating partner organizations. Internship projects provide students with the opportunity for guided application of skills and concepts learned in class. The curriculum begins in the first year of pharmacy school.

Required and elective courses make up 15 academic credits which are eligible to meet the professional elective requirements for the School of Pharmacy. There are no additional tuition requirements for pharmacy students entering the Pharmacy Management Program. Completion of the program provides students with a Pharmacy Management Certificate granted by the University of Washington School of Business.

The Pharmacy Management Program is selective. Selection for the program is based upon academic accomplishment in professional courses, school activities, a statement of goals and objectives, previous experience and a personal interview. Students in good standing in the University of Washington Doctor of Pharmacy program may apply to the Pharmacy Management Program after completion of the second quarter of professional course work, or no later than April 15 of each year. Students must have a professional GPA of 3.0. Additional information may be obtained by email from Dr. Jacqueline Gardner at .
