F. Hebert, PharmD This post-doctoral fellowship is designed to train the individual to establish an independent and collaborative progressive research practice in Immunology Therapeutics and Solid Organ Transplantation. Research activities include: protocol design, study coordination, data collection, HPLC analysis, microsomal incubations, data analysis, presentation of results and manuscript preparation. Polymerase chain reaction analysis and cell culture technique may also be involved. Opportunities for additional coursework and teaching experience is also available. Contact: Elmer M. and Joy B. Plein Fellowship for Excellence in Pharmacy Education The University of Washington School of Pharmacy is pleased to announce the availability of the Elmer M. and Joy B. Plein Fellowship for Excellence in Pharmacy Education. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide fellows with the opportunity to acquire research and teaching skills needed to become outstanding faculty. The scope of the fellowship may address research and teaching efforts of the Department of Pharmacy, Medicinal Chemistry and/or Pharmaceutics depending on the interests of the successful candidate. Wide ranging research opportunities are available in the following area: pharmacotheraputics, drug metabolism, drug interactions, pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacoeconomics and pharmacoepidemiology. Candidate qualifications include a PharmD with a residency or prior fellowship training or a PhD Applicants need to demonstrate career goals consistent with a commitment to becoming faculty in a School of Pharmacy. The duration of the fellowship is one year with possibility of renewal for a second year. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The applicant pool will be evaluated by a committee composed of faculty from the Departments of Pharmacy, Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutics. D. Anderson, PhD Community/Ambulatory Pharmacy Residency Program A community-based pharmacy residency is designed to be a comprehensive postgraduate experience that advances a pharmacist's education and training in drug therapy and disease management for patients in the community/ambulatory setting. The residency prepares pharmacists for the current and future realities of patient care in a rapidly changing health care environment. It provides opportunities for integrating the pharmaceutical care practice model and practice-based outcomes research in community/ambulatory settings. Key components of the residency experience are the advancement of the pharmacy profession and the discovery of new knowledge that leads to improved patient care. The community/ambulatory pharmacy residency experience will focus on the following competency areas:
It is expected that each practice site will offer additional experiences and opportunities to take advantage of the unique programs and services available. Additionally, each site offers flexibility in designing different rotations and educational experiences depending on the residents' specific interests. Residents will have opportunities to work with other residents in Washington state as well as attend local, regional and national meetings. There are currently three sites in the CPRP program which are described more fully in the Site Description section. International Community Health Services Ambulatory Care Residency Program The University of Washington School of Pharmacy and International Community Health Services (ICHS) Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is a 12-month training program focused on geriatric pharmacy and ambulatory clinical practice. The main goal of this program is to provide specialized training in geriatric pharmacotherapy and chronic disease state management, with emphasize on the provision of direct, comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients. In addition to direct patient care, the resident will function as the coordinator of pharmacy services and consultant pharmacist for patients who reside at Legacy House, an assisted living facility. The resident will also be actively involved in education and participate in both clinical and classroom teaching, as well as precepting pharmacy students from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. Other activities include developing drug information policies, conducting a major project and providing occasional relief-staffing coverage at the clinic pharmacy. The two primary sponsors of this Residency Program are the International Community Health services (ICHS) and the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. The ICHS provides the funding and residency salary and the UW School of Pharmacy provides resources in educational training, preceptorship and evaluation of the resident, as well as assist in the recruitment of the appropriate candidate. A. Bauer, PharmD, FCCP PharmD or equivalent (residency preferred) to enter 1-2 year research fellowship starting August 1, designed to train independent investigator. Experiences include analytical methodology, noninvasive pharmacodynamic measurement techniques, protocol development and implementation, biostatistics, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation. Opportunities for additional coursework and teaching pharmacy students. Facilities: Clinical Research Center, Cardiovascular Research Laboratories, clinical Pharmacokinetics Lab, Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy Lab and extensive computer equipment. Yearly stipend, medical/dental coverage offered.
