Late January: we will send you a form asking you for an update on your site information and also asking when you would be available/willing to teach students. We hope you will return this information to us by late February. Additionally, all Clinical and Affiliate Faculty going up for promotion need to have all paperwork submitted by this time. February: Promotions are voted upon by the Department of Pharmacy. They subsequently are shipped to upper campus for another vote by the University of Washington Regents. Late March: The students receive a "site catalog" with all the updated information from you, at a site selection orientation. They have 2-3 weeks to look over this information and decide which sites they are interested in. They have full access to evaluations written by past students at each site, and they also may contact preceptors of sites that interest them. Thus, you may get a call from upcoming students sometime during the first 3 weeks of April. Also in late March: January to March requests for appointment to clinical faculty are processed. Mid-April: Nominations are due for the Wayne Kradjan Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award. Nominate yourself! Nominate your colleague! Late April: the students enter their site choices onto the computerized site selection program (designed to allow randomized matching between students and sites of their choosing). Promotions should have completed review by the Regents by this time. Those approved will then go to processing by University administration. Mid-May: the site match is completed. The updated student syllabus and preceptor's guides are sent to the printer and the student resumes are loaded onto the computer. The Clinical/Affiliate Faculty Dinner is also scheduled around this time. Please come! Great food and a chance to network with the School and fellow preceptors! Late May: Sites are notified of students with whom they've been matched, and also receive a copy of the Preceptor's Guide, via mailing. Early June: Students attend a 3-hour practicum orientation where all housekeeping information is explained and the student syllabus is reviewed in detail. Late June/Early July: Thank you letters from the Office of Professional Education are mailed to all preceptors along with copies of the student evaluations from the previous academic (July-June) year. Also in late June: April &endash; June requests for appointment to clinical faculty are processed. July: Many students will officially begin their rotations this month, although some students will elect to delay start of rotations until August or even September. Status of newly promoted faculty is official on July 1st. Mid-September: Professional information update forms are mailed to all Clinical and Affiliate Faculty members. We ask that you return this information by the end of October at the latest.. Late September: July - September requests for appointment to clinical faculty are processed. Early December: the Clinical and Affiliate Faculty Appointment and Retention Committee meets. The committee reviews all Clinical and Affiliate Faculty members to consider re-appointment for the next calendar year (we look for evidence of clinical teaching or other significant interaction with the School in order to reappoint Clinical and Affiliate Faculty). Promotions are also considered at this meeting. If you are interested in promotion, you are welcome to review our promotion criteria (see our web page), and if you feel you meet the criteria, you can request promotion. This request should be made in writing when you return your Professional Information Update form. Late December: October - December requests for appointment to clinical faculty are processed. |
