About the Residency Program

The primary goal of the UW-QFC PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is to foster the formal postgraduate education and training for pharmacists in the community pharmacy setting. The objectives of the 12-month residency program are to advance the Resident Pharmacist"st knowledge in drug therapy, medication and disease management , as well as health screenings and wellness education while developing communication and management skills to delver patient-focused care and implement new innovations in sercice delivery. this program is the newest addition to the University of Washington School of Pharmacy Community and Ambulatory PGY-1 Residency Program, accreditied by the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists and it's partner organization the American Pharmacists Association since 2004.

About QFC (Quality Food Centers) Pharmacy

The QFC Pharmacy is a member of Kroger Family of Pharmacies.  With 34 pharmacies located throughout the State of Washington, the QFC Pharmacy culture is governed by the core values of honesty, integrity, respect, diversity, safety and inclusion.  The objectives of the 12-month residency program are to advance the Resident Pharmacist’s knowledge in drug therapy, medication and disease management, as well as health screenings and wellness education while developing communication and management skills to deliver patient-focused care and implement new innovations in service delivery.  The main training locations are at the University Village QFC Pharmacy and the QFC Corporate Office in Bellevue, Washington, with periodic rotations through other pharmacies.  Residency learning activities will include, but not limited to the following: medication therapy management, travel vaccination and immunization, long-term care facility drug regimen review, disease management in hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, asthma/COPD and osteoporosis. Interdisciplinary learning on diet and nutrition counseling will also be included.  Residency preceptors include clinical pharmacists, the clinical care coordinator and pharmacy managers of QFC Pharmacy as well as faculty preceptors and Residency Program Director at the University of Washington Department of Pharmacy.

The residency program preceptors include the QFC Pharmacy Directors, QFC Pharmacy Clinical Care Coordinator, QFC Pharmacy managers, the University of Washington Residency Program Director and other University of Washington faculty preceptors. The resident will spend time at two major training locations: at the Univesity Village QFC Pharmacy in Seattle and the QFC Pharmacy Administration Office in Bellevue WA. The resident may also travel to other QFC Pharmacy locations to gain exposure to the diverse services and patient population in different locations.
