Application Process


Requirements for Applicants:

  • Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited college or school of pharmacy. Foreign pharmacy graduates, licensed or eligible for immediate licensure in selected states may be considered candidates for community pharmacy residency programs. They must, however, meet the requirements for the National Association of Boards ofPharmacy Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee Certification.
  • Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Washington.
  • Applicants are encouraged to be an active member of state and national pharmacy associations.
  • In addition to achieving a record of academic excellence, the applicant must provide evidence of the following (if selected for an interview):  (1) a commitment to pharmaceutical care in the community/ambulatory pharmacy setting, (2) outstanding communication skills, and (3) motivation to discover and disseminate new knowledge through applied research in pharmaceutical care.

Application Process:

Applications are due no later than January 15th of every calendar year.

A formal, competitive application process will be used to accept residents into the residency program. Applicants will be evaluated by the director and preceptor of the program.

Applicants will provide the following information at the time of application:

  1. Completed and signed Preliminary Application form (multiple site applications are permitted).
  2. Formal letter of application which includes statements about:
    • Why you want to participate in this residency.
    • The contributions you think you can make to this residency.
    • Your career plans.
  3. Three letters of recommendation (using our Recommendation Letter Request form), one of which must come from an employer or supervisor.
  4. Curriculum Vitae.
  5. College Transcripts.  

Interview Process:

After applications have been reviewed, the top candidates will be invited by the site(s) for an interview.

These required interviews will be with the Selection Committee, which is comprised of the Residency Director, Residency Preceptor, and the current resident.

Applicants will be notified of the Selection Committee's decision no later than March 15th.
