Karen L. Edwards, Ph.D.
Dr. Karen Edwards is a Professor of Epidemiology, and the Director of the IPHG. Dr. Edwards' research focuses on understanding genetic susceptibility to complex diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes and obesity. She is also studying interactions between dietary factors and genetic susceptibility to these important public health conditions.
Dr. Edwards also directs the UW Center for Genomics and Public Health, one of only two Centers in the U.S. The goals of the Center are to integrate advances in genetic technology into public health practice and to offer research and educational opportunities for public health students and professionals. Finally, Dr. Edwards coordinates the degree track in genetic epidemiology, as a joint effort between the Institute for Public Health Genetics and the Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
