Career Opportunities

Public health genetics is an emerging field with a promising future based on continuous innovation, and a variety of employment and training opportunities already available. IPHG graduates have taken positions in academic and research settings, state and local departments of health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health.

Others, particularly in the Masters? programs, have gone on to advanced training opportunities in law school, medical school, genetic counseling programs, various Ph.D. programs, and fellowships at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In all likelihood, such opportunities will increase in the years ahead. The Institute for Public Health Genetics participates in the annual Career Fair of the UW's School of Public Health and Community Medicine, where students can discuss career opportunities with professionals from a variety of public-health?related organizations.
