Health Effects Core

The Health Effects core provides epidemiologic and medical consultation for Center activities. This involves assistance with study design, clinical testing, and toxicological issues. At present Drs. Kaufman and Sullivan are providing the clinical expertise needed for recruitment of subjects. They also are acquiring the expertise necessary for measurement of heart rate variability that will be added to the number of health effects measurements we make in our panel studies of subjects with respiratory or cardiac disease. A long-range resource of this Core includes its plans to catalog and develop the capability to use population-based databases (both currently available and newly developing) regarding health outcomes in the Pacific Northwest region in studies of PM exposures.
