Invitation to the 2004 PNC/MLA Annual Meeting

"50 years in the Pacific Northwest, There's no place like home!"

This year we meet in Seattle at the Washington Athletic Club (WAC) from October 2-5. Looking back, we can be proud of the past 50 years of medical librarianship in the Pacific Northwest. But, for all of us …..

"It's not your grandmother's library anymore!"

Join us as we explore how to make today's library service meet today's technological, legislative, and economic demands, while retaining that friendly, personal touch of 50 years ago.

This year the RML will supplement our program with a full day Saturday workshop for hospital librarians. It will include presentations and panel discussions on the challenges facing today's hospital library. CE Courses will give you the opportunity to learn about marketing yourself, dealing effectively with electronic resources and using surveys to learn more about your library patrons and the services they want and use.

Our Program examines the library as place with a keynote address by a panel of Library Architects and an afternoon presentation discussing office makeovers. A lucky attendee (drawn 9/30) will win a $500 office makeover! We will also take a look at the present and future of library services through the eyes of three graduate students from the UW Information School, who will present their recent research projects.

The Banquet will celebrate our 50 years in "Fifties Style". Please pack a "50s outfit" for the evening. Remember it was not all poodle skirts! We'll have good music, great food, 50s trivia, and lots of fun.

We invite you to take the CE, enjoy the chance to meet friends, and visit your favorite spots in downtown Seattle. When you register, take time to look at our Historical Photo Gallery of the Region's Medical Libraries. If you are here on Saturday, take the tour of the Seattle Public Library to see their beautiful new facility.

Warning! You will eat very well! To start you off in style, the Welcome event will be a Buffet dinner of portable foods. Mingle, eat, and greet your friends. Every registration option includes the Monday Vendor's Lunch and the Breakfast(s) for The PNC Business Meeting and the RML Update (breakfasts include beverage, juice, meat, pastry and your choice of entre). Be sure to mark your breakfast choices for both days on the registration.

This year we are offering a "Conference Only" option which does not include either the Welcome Buffet or the Banquet. You may purchase tickets for either separately.

You may purchase a box lunch for Sunday. We offer this option for those taking CE, but anyone registered for the conference…or their guests… may also purchase this lunch. If buying a box lunch, be sure to mark your choice on the registration.

Only those registered for the RML Hospital Library Day will receive a lunch on Saturday.
