Post-Doctoral Research Assistant through Research Corporation University of Guam

An interesting and challenging post-doctoral opportunity to help Guam assess and plan for changing climate.

Announcement for a two-year postdoctoral research position

An exciting two-year postdoctoral interdisciplinary research opportunity is available at the University of Guam’s Center for Island Sustainability (http://www.uog.edu/center-for-island-sustainability/center-for-island-sustainability-cis) for a passionate individual interested in adaptation and vulnerability to contemporary climate change.

The successful applicant will draw from diverse literature (e.g., biology, geology, land-use, economics, GIS, climate), and from interactions with local and federal resource managers, other conservation practitioners, the business community, university researchers, and NGO scientists to identify knowledge, management needs, and scientific gaps with regards to adaptive capacity.  Well-developed interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and a desire to collaborate with agency scientists, resource managers, and university researchers are required for success in this exceptional opportunity.  The researcher will lead the organization, progress, and completion of a comprehensive vulnerability assessment for the island of Guam.  S/he will be centrally involved in the organization of workshops for the Guam Climate Change Task Force to develop a framework for assessing vulnerability to contemporary climate change.  From this work, it is expected that several peer-reviewed publications and a major, dynamic, multi-sector, vulnerability assessment report are produced.  The successful applicant will be allocated one graduate research assistant to assist with work.

The successful candidate will be hired as a post-doctoral research assistant through the Research Corporation University of Guam and will be eligible for full to partial coverage of relocation expenses, if applicable.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Highly qualified and interested individuals should contact Dr. Romina King (roking@triton.uog.edu; +16717352880) and provide a CV and a concise one page personal statement of interest that outlines pertinent experience, general qualifications, graduate degrees, and research fields.  Please expound on experience related to vulnerability and resilience assessments and small islands.
