For example, the BLM uses science to monitor rangeland vegetation, soils, water, wildlife habitat and the effects of wildfire. The BLM also relies on sound science and monitoring data to determine appropriate management levels for wild horse and burro herds. Although BLM has deep experience with resource monitoring, it is not a research agency \u2013 instead, BLM relies on the US Geological Survey (USGS), other federal agencies with research expertise, universities, and other partners to answer questions that are vital to wild horse and burro management.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The BLM is currently seeking research proposals from scientists who can develop new research projects that support the goals outlined in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blm.gov\/policy\/ib-2022-008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2021 Wild Horse and Burro Strategic Research Plan<\/a>.
