Advisory Board’s Purpose
The Program on the Environment is governed by an Advisory Board whose membership reflects the stakeholders in environmental education at the University of Washington.
The role of the PoE Advisory Board is to bring faculty from a wide range of disciplinary units, senior staff, students, and PoE alumni together to consider how PoE can most effectively deliver undergraduate, graduate, and public programs in environmental education.
The functions of the Advisory Board are to:
- serve as the forum in which the PoE Director obtains advice on how to make PoE activities more effective;
- act as a sounding board for ideas, and actively participate in discussions and brainstorming about PoE directions and programs;
- serve as representatives of PoE in their home units;
- participate actively in networking – both bringing additional faculty into PoE, and finding opportunities to work with faculty from disparate units through PoE;
- vote to quantify support for major decisions of the Director;
- participate in the quinquennial review of the Director according to the Faculty Code.
Executive Committee
An Executive Committee appointed by the PoE Director from Advisory Board membership meets regularly with the Director to:
- help identify and/or review Advisory Board agenda items;
- work on issues prior to discussion at Board meetings; and
- serve as a representative of PoE, in addition to the Director.
