Career Skills Workshops
Designed and taught by the PoE alumni, the Career Skills Workshops bring PoE alumni who are working in environmental fields back to the classroom to work one-on-one and in small groups with seniors in the last quarter of the Capstone Experience. The alumni facilitators are selected to represent a range of sectors and types of careers and graduate degrees. Small groups of 3-5 students are matched with alumni whose background and experiences match the students’ career goals.
Each student participates in a Resume and Cover Letter Skills Workshop and an Interviewing Skills Workshop. Every student creates a resume and cover letter and completes a mock interview for a specific job. Students are encouraged to apply for real jobs that are currently open or for sample jobs that are no longer open but that were posted within the last year. Alumni offer feedback via a Resume and Cover Letter Feedback Checklist and an Interview Feedback Checklist. Students planning to apply to graduate programs may opt to create a statement of purpose and Curriculum Vitae (CV) for review by alumni who have completed graduate studies.
A key project of the PoE Alumni Advisory Board, the Career Skills Workshops provide graduating PoE seniors with valuable coaching on how to successfully transition from college to career and introduce them to a network of committed PoE Alumni interested in mentoring emerging environmental professionals.
