Interdisciplinary and Policy Dimensions of the Earth Sciences
Application Procedures and Deadlines
Incoming Students
New UW applicants interested in pursuing the “Policy Dimensions of the Earth Sciences” should indicate an interest in their Statement of Purpose included with the departmental admissions application, and notify the Graduate Program Coordinator (poe@u.washington.edu).
Continuing UW Graduate Students
Continuing students should speak with their thesis/dissertation adviser and contact the Graduate Program Coordinator (poe@u.washington.edu) for an advising appointment.
All Students
Students enrolled in or entering a degree program in one of the participating departments are eligible to apply. Prospective students should contact the Graduate Program Coordinator prior to completing an application.
Applications are accepted twice a year, with deadlines of October 15 and April 15. Applications should include:
- Letter of application (no more than about 500 words or 2
pages). The letter of application should
- describe how you expect the program to fulfill your academic and professional goals;
- how the program will influence your thesis/dissertation research;
- identify preliminary (non-binding) co-chairs and advisory committee composition (this may be changed later); and
- sketch out a preliminary program of study for your learning contract.
- C.V. (resume),
- Letters of support from each of your faculty co-advisors, and
- Undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial/photocopy of transcripts OK).
Students are strongly encouraged to contact individual faculty whose research matches student interests. Your thesis/dissertation adviser and/or the Graduate Program Coordinator can help students identify faculty with specific interests in a wide range of participating academic programs, and help students design their study program and advisory committee.
