Undergraduate Program Overview
Program on the Environment (PoE) offers a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a Minor in Environmental Studies. PoE also provides administrative support for the Restoration Ecology Certificate. As the UW’s only university-wide, inter-college undergraduate degree, the Environmental Studies major has been at the leading edge of interdisciplinary learning at the UW since the Program on the Environment first offered the degree in 1998.
The Curriculum integrates the broad range of social and natural science disciplines which influence the field of environmental studies. Students take an active role in their academic planning by selecting environmentally-related courses from over 20 departments across the university. With an emphasis on bioregional, global, and field-based content, students learn in the field, in the lab, in the classroom, in the community, and around the world.
The B.A. degree provides a broad-based environmental education that offers excellent training and preparation for a wide variety of careers or for postgraduate studies. Please see our alumni page examples of the kind of professional and academic work our graduates are engaged in.
