Transfer PlanningWhether you are enrolled at a community college, a four-year institution, or are returning to college after some time, applying to transfer takes careful and thoughtful planning. A great way to start is by looking at the Transfer Admission and Planning Guide, and the Academic Planning Worksheet provided by the UW Office of Admissions. If you have any questions about the admissions process, call the Office of Admissions at (206) 543.9686. Press zero to speak with a Receptionist, and ask to speak to an Admissions Specialist. Environmental Studies is an open enrollment major, which means that transfer students who are eligible for admission to the University can be admitted directly to the Environmental Studies major. To prepare for the coursework you'll complete once you are in the major, transfer students interested in Environmental Studies are strongly encouraged to complete as many of the Foundational Courses listed below as possible prior to enrolling in UW. If you are currently enrolled at a Washington state community college, you can use the UW's Transfer Equivalency Guide to determine which courses at your community college are equivalent to the UW courses listed below. If you are currently enrolled at a Washington state community college, you can use the UW's Transfer Equivalency Guide to see how your credits will transfer. Another useful tool in your transfer planning is the Washington Course Applicability System (WACAS). This web based tool allows you to see how your community college courses will apply toward specific UW degree requirements. Foreign Language: Although the UW admission requirement is just two high school years of a foreign language, the Environmental Studies graduation requirement is completion of a foreign language through the third quarter with at least a 2.0 grade. Transfer students are strongly encouraged to complete this requirement before they transfer, as it is one of the factors in the admissions comprehensive review. Come to Transfer Thursday and meet with an Environmental Studies Advisor! Prospective Transfer students are invited to come to drop-in advising every Thursday from 3:30-4:30 in Mary Gates Hall room 274. Students are also encouraged to attend the Transfer Thursday admission session at 2:30, just downstairs in Mary Gates 171. At this 30-minute session a representative of the UW Office of Admissions will describe admission procedures for transfer students. Topics covered include Core Subject Requirements and the Comprehensive Review.
