The Shiver
of the Abandoned and Wasted Lines.
Stonecut by Chen Zunsan based on Lu Xun’s prose poem “Tremors
of Degradation”
(Tui bai xian de zhan dong) in Wild Grass (Ye cao,
1925).
As she utters her speech without words, her body -- great as a stone
statue, but already degraded and abandoned -- shivers from head
to toe. The convulsions move like fish scales, rising and falling
like boiling water over a fierce flame.
At the
same instant, the air also trembles, as if it were waves of a deserted
sea in a thunderstorm.
