Americorps Position!

Hi everyone!

My name is Alexandra Zaballa and I graduated from UW last Spring. This year I am completing an AmeriCorps term and I wanted to take the time to tell you all a little about the program because applications will be accepted starting next week! I am continuously learning a lot from the program and it has been a great way to spend my year before I start medical school in the Fall.

Here is a little information about the program:

Sea Mar Community Health Centers AmeriCorps/HealthCorps Opportunities: Community HealthCorps is intended to promote health care for America’s underserved populations, and helps to develop tomorrow’s health-care workforce. Community HealthCorps members provide direct service to Sea Mar clients while enhancing their skills and experiences in the field of health and human services. Each member’s personal growth is fostered through a highly supportive, challenging and educational team environment.

The HealthCorps positions are all 11-month commitments, beginning August 13th, 2012, and lasting through July 1st, 2013. All positions are full-time commitments, with a total of 1700 service hours required by the end of the service term. Benefits include: Trainings on various health related topics Annual living stipend of $12,100/$850-900 (net) per month Educational award of $5,550 to help pay educational loans Health insurance Child care (if eligible) Food assistance (if eligible) Student loan deferment Numerous trainings on a myriad of health-related topics

To be eligible for this program, an applicant must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, US national or permanent legal resident at the time of application. Applicant must also possess a strong interest in serving the community within the health and human services fields.
