Currently we are looking for undergrad volunteers to serve as translators at our clinic located at Casa Latina, a workers resource center who offers a variety of programs to immigrants. Casa Latina clinic is a screen and refer clinic; which means that our main focus is to screen patients who are at risk for high blood pressure and diabetes and get them referred to a medical provider to be seen (many of these people have not seen a medical provider in as many as 10 years). At Casa Latina Clinic we do not treat or prescribe medicine rather we evaluate and consult one on one with the patient in order to fully understand their health care needs. The community that we serve are immigrants coming from Latin America mainly Mexico. We are looking for undergrad volunteers who are passionate about bridging the gap between being able to attain health care in vulnerable communities such as this. As a translator you will serve as a liaison between the providers and the patient and help these patients attain the health care that they need. If you are interested we ask that you speak fluent Spanish and are able to commit for at least one year. We also ask that you submit an email to us with a paragraph giving us some background on who you are and what past experiences contribute to your drive to help vulnerable communities like the ones Al-Shifa serves. There are limited spaces open and we ask that you submit the email to us by 9 pm Wednesday April 17, 2013. We will review emails and send responses by Friday April 19 and let you know what the next steps will be. If you’re interested please send emails to Gloria Flores at glorif@uw.edu Shereen Khorami Khorami19@hotmail.com and Noemi Correa (ncorrea@u.washington.edu) Please let us know if you have any questions and have a great day!
