Count Us In is our community’s count of homeless and unstably housed young people ages 12-25. In 2014, 779 homeless and unstably housed young people were counted at over 45 partner locations across King County. Count Us In provides supplemental data to King County’s One Night Count, a point-in-time count for homeless people all across the county. Though the One Night Count is one of the best-established in the nation, it isn’t set up to have detailed demographics. Often times, when volunteers are counting homeless people in parks, under bridges, or in doorways, it is difficult to determine sex, race, or age. As a result, the number of homeless youth counted in the One Night Count is underrepresented. Count Us In provides richer data and increased awareness around the homeless youth population. This volunteer will conduct the count at different branches of the Seattle Public Library.
You can help! We need volunteers comfortable talking to youth in transition and approaching strangers! Volunteers commit to one 2 to 4-hour shift on January 22nd, 2015. Volunteers are also required to complete a training component (one hour) covering how to conduct the survey.
This is a great opportunity for those to get involved who are not able to participate in the One Night Count.
