Work Study Opportunity in UW SOM

The Office of Rural Programs within the UW School of Medicine has an excellent opportunity for a work-study student to learn more about medical student programs and gain valuable professional office experience.  The student will work with and the RUOP, TRUST, WRITE, and AHEC staff and faculty in the administration and day-to-day operations.  Duties include database maintenance, program and event support, updating marketing materials, and other administrative tasks as needed.  We are looking for someone who is dependable, has strong attention to detail, and is a self-starter.  Must be proficient in use of MS Office application in a PC-based setting.  Availability to work 10-hours a week during regular business hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, and very occasional evening events and meetings.  This job will continue into the 2018-2019 academic year.  Please email a copy of your resume to Michelle Fleming, flemingm@uw.edu, along with 1-2 sentences about why you are interested in the position.  http://blogs.uw.edu/somrural

Hosted by Active Minds UW, the conference aims to develop greater awareness of mental health issues and empower attendees to combat the surrounding stigma. This year, they will bring in six skilled workshop leaders, two keynote speakers, and a panel of students to discuss and educate others about the stigmas surrounding mental health.

Film Screening 5/29: Clínica de Migrantes

The Latino Center for Health and the UWSOM Center for Health Equity Diversity and Inclusion are pleased to sponsor Dr. Steven Larson’s visit to the UW Seattle campus on Tuesday, May 29th to present the film Clínica de Migrantes:  life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  Please join them in welcoming Dr. Larson, Clinical Director of Puentes de Salúd, from Philadelphia to present the screening of this film!

Clínica de Migrantes: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness 

Synopsis:  Clínica de Migrantes is a medical drama about a year in the life of Puentes de Salúd, one of a few health clinics in the U.S. dedicated to providing quality culturally-responsive healthcare to undocumented immigrant populations. At Puentes, a team of volunteers led by Dr. Steve Larson attend to an ever-growing population of housekeepers, prep cooks, and construction workers in South Philadelphia. Many come to Puentes after being turned away at other health care clinics and hospitals.
