MCAT Course Auction for Charity

Hi everyone! Phi Delta Epsilon is auctioning a Kaplan MCAT course scholarship code. The course scholarship code is valued at up to $2499 and can be used for any of Kaplan’s courses with the exception of the PLUS or Tutoring options. The starting bid is $950 and will be sold on ebay, to add buyer-protection.

This code is redeemable for any of the Kaplan locations in the U.S. The code doesn’t expire till 1/16/19 so even if you are thinking of registering for an MCAT course later in the year, the code will still be redeemable.

Phi Delta Epsilon is a premedical fraternity dedicated to preparing undergraduates students for medical school. Every few months, we host events to help raise awareness regarding children’s hospitals, promote blood donations, and volunteer at volunteer park and Vegfest. Most recently, we hosted the Anatomy Fashion Show, where we raised more than $3000 for the Seattle Children’s Hospital. The money raised from this auction will be used to help raise more awareness for Seattle Children’s Hospital in the future.

You can find more information about the auction at: https://www.facebook.com/events/360066384509745/

MDA Summer Camp Opportunity

Hello!

We are reaching out to you because the Muscular Dystrophy Association – Western Washington needs your help to find qualified volunteers for our upcoming 2018 Summer Camp program.

More than half of our camp volunteers are typically students from local colleges pursuing a variety of majors and career paths. Our volunteer team also includes fire fighters, paramedics, and medical professionals from our community.

In addition to bringing joy to our campers, this is an amazing opportunity for your students to gain hands-on experience in education, recreation, family social sciences, and medical care. As camp volunteers, they will acquire a week of experience working with children living with neuromuscular disease, as well as 150 volunteer hours. They will also be in a position to receive letters of recommendation supporting applications for postgraduate opportunities.

MDA staff and the camp medical team provide all the medical training your students will need for the week. The only request we have is that your students enjoy working with kids, have an open heart, and are willing to learn. (Note: Food and lodging are provided to our volunteers at no cost.)

We truly can’t do this without the help of caring individuals like you.

A more thorough description of this volunteer opportunity including criteria and responsibilities, dates of MDA Summer Camps in Washington, Oregon and Idaho and the web address to begin the application process. (MDA’s 2018 Washington Summer Camp near Gig Harbor begins on 6/23/18 with a completed application deadline of 4/27/18)

Please feel free to contact the MDA Western Washington office at (206) 283-2183 or reply to this email if you have any questions or would like additional information. You can also reach out to the Camp Director of the MDA Washington Summer Camp (near Gig Harbor), Rachael Burris at RBurris@mdausa.org or (206) 283-2183.

 Thank you!

Volunteer Opportunities with American Diabetes Association Summer Camp

Are you interested in working with kids who have type 1 diabetes and learning more about diabetes management?  If so, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has a volunteer opportunity for you!  Join us for ADA Camp Sealth on Vashon Island, which is taking place this year from Monday, August 6 to Saturday, August 11.  Our camp is the only diabetes camp in the country that’s integrated into a traditional summer camp, so our campers can attend with their family and friends without diabetes!  The ADA’s role is to manage all of the medical care for the campers with diabetes so they can focus on having fun at summer camp.

We have two volunteer roles for students: medical assistants and diabetes counselors.  Medical assistants help campers with testing their blood sugar before meals and bedtime, treat low blood sugars, and fill in for other staff as needed.  We ask that medical assistants plan to attend camp for at least three days and two nights.  Diabetes counselors are assigned to a specific cabin and accompany their campers on activities throughout the week to help with diabetes management.  We ask that these volunteers attend camp for the whole week.  Room and board is provided for all volunteers.  No prior experience is needed, as there will be training before camp to teach you everything you need to know!

If you’re interested in volunteering at camp, please contact Kathleen at kdaymen@diabetes.org. Include Sealth in the subject line
