Enroll in Winter Quarter GEN ST 391D: Research Exposed! Population Health (1cr)

Enroll in Winter Quarter GEN ST 391D: Research Exposed! Population Health (1cr)

Research Exposed is an opportunity to learn about current, exciting research in a wide variety of disciplines. Through presentations by UW faculty students will learn about the research process, how faculty come up with an idea for research, how inquiry is structured in the different disciplines, and how students can become involved in the knowledge-making process. The course meets once a week for fifty minutes and may be repeated for credit (1 credit/quarter, 3 quarters max).

This winter quarter, Research Exposed is teaming up with the UW Population Health Initiative to offer a series of faculty lectures (including one by President Cauce!) focused on human health, environmental resilience, and social and economic equity. For students interested in the intersecting factors that influence the outcomes and quality of human health, Research Exposed will offer insight into and opportunities to participate in ongoing research at UW. The full winter quarter speaker schedule can be found on the URP website. See the UW Time Schedule (SLN 15110) to register.

INSIGHT Summer Research Program

The INSIGHT Summer Research Program is an eight week paid summer internship through the University of Washington at Harborview’s Injury Prevention and Research Center.

Students in the program are matched to clinical research projects at Harborview and UWMC and partner with a University of Washington Medical School faculty mentor.  Students will also meet and learn from peers and health professionals from across the country. Bringing together a diverse group of young people interested in health care and research allows HIPRC to create a unique and rich resource for students who seek to learn more about what they can accomplish in the field of injury and injury prevention.

The application process has opened up for this upcoming year’s program. Attached is a one-page flyer with an overview of our program, which is geared towards undergrads entering their junior and senior years, as well as 1styear graduate and medical students, but accepts motivated students of all levels.  They offer a $3,200 stipend to those accepted.

Podiatric Internships – AACPM resource

We’re excited to share a new resource now available on the American Association of College of Podiatric Medicine’s website.  We’ve collected all the Podiatric Medicine Internship opportunities in one location – from winter to summer, our colleges have an opportunity that fits your students’ needs.

http://www.aacpm.org/becoming-a-podiatric-physician/career-center/

It’s time to start planning for the 2018 Internships programs now.  Students should review the requirements for an Internship Program to make certain they meet the minimum criteria to apply.  You can also discover which program might offer the best location, dates and length of programming.   Click early, as deadlines are rapidly approaching for the winter programs.

Why consider a career in podiatric medicine?

  • A Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) is a specialist in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of lower extremity disorders, diseases and injuries.
  • DPMs can specialize in a variety of areas such as surgery, orthopedics, or public health. Besides these certified specialties, podiatrists may practice a subspecialty such as sports medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, radiology, geriatrics, or diabetic foot care.
  • The DPM is a vital member of the health-care team. He or she is often the first to detect symptoms of diabetes or peripheral vascular disease because of the human foot’s interrelation with the rest of the body.
