Puget Sound
Puget Sound is the primary urban center of the state of Washington, encompassing Seattle, Tacoma, and
the state capital in Olympia. Pierce County is also home to Mount Rainier National Park.
The main UW campus in Seattle provides Puget Sound with all of the benefits expected from a premier
research university: cutting edge health care and medical research, abundant professional development
opportunities for K-12 educators, policy research in local settings in diverse disciplines, K-12 student
outreach programs, and a wide range of performing and visual arts.
The University of Washington, Tacoma serves the South Puget Sound region with educational
programs designed for a range of students: from place-bound adults returning to complete their
education, to traditional-age students transferring from community colleges. UWT offers the
junior and senior years of a bachelor's degree as well as master's degree programs.
Because of the literally hundreds of research, teaching, and service programs based on UW
campuses, the list below offers only a small sample of these activities. Visit the Community
Affairs web site for more information about performing and visual arts, sporting events, and
educational opportunities and services in the Puget Sound area.
