Research Scientist: Life Sciences Statistical Computing
 
We are seeking a hands-on, driven, well-organized professional with commercial software development experience in statistics, computational mathematics, and data analysis.  This individual will have the primary responsibilities of developing algorithms and related software for statistical analysis of life sciences data for assisting contract research projects to successful completion.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
- Responsible for the implementation/development of algorithms and software tools for the statistical analysis of large experimental bioinformatics/genomics data sets.  Tools include supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, with applications to assist the practicing scientist or clinician in understanding the underlying biology.
 
- Implementation of commercial-quality code in S-PLUS and C/C++ for Insightful’s Life Sciences data analysis products and solutions.
 
- Publication of methods and results as they relate to the elucidation of class discovery, class prediction or other market-driven end-user requirements.
 
- Preparation of research grant applications in the field of statistics, computational biology, and bioinformatics.
 
-Create company and contract compliant deliverables through individual contributions.
 
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
 
Education and Training: M.S. or Ph.D. in Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Engineering Sciences, Physical Sciences, or related discipline.
 
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: 
- Minimum three years software development experience, including knowledge of the C/C++ computer languages.
 
- Experience with algorithm development and data analysis in S-Plus or R.
 
- Experience with Windows and Unix development platforms; defect tracking systems; configuration management; and source control management such as cvs or Perforce.
 
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
 
- Familiarity with the BioConductor project is desirable.
 
- Experience with management of clinical data, Oracle, XML, and/or SAS is desirable.
