At this level, incumbents are responsible for designing and constructing
sophisticated financial application models with techniques such as (logistic)
regression, time series, survival, clustering/discriminant, optimization,
decision tree, and simulation models to support
retention/risk/lending/cross-sell/loss/prepayment/acquisition
managements and strategies . This position leads subordinate
Statisticians and provides planning and organization to the Statistician
function.
Essential Functions:
- Researches,
compiles and analyzes complex statistical data, and builds/tests sophisticated models.
- Creates
unique databases and reports used to support analytic findings by
selecting valid data samples and merging data from multiple data sources.
- Reviews
the most complicated problem situations referred from lower-level staff;
assesses situations, possible ramifications of various alternatives, and
determines the appropriate course of action. Approves exceptions to policy
within scope of authority.
- Develops
and communicates new procedures and operating methods; ensures functions
within assigned scope of authority are performed effectively and within
policy guidelines; monitors work flow and reassigns workload, as
necessary, to maximize performance.
- Presents
findings, analyses, and recommendations to senior and executive management
via group presentations, meetings, and face-to-face
interactions/discussions.
- Provides
direction, leadership, and expertise to functional subordinates in
assigned area; ensures that subordinates are provided with the appropriate
tools to successfully execute their responsibilities; develops
the skills of subordinates through a combination of goal-setting,
delegation, training, counseling, and performance management; recommends
staffing levels and personnel actions such as hiring, firing, promotions,
transfers, salary actions, and staff training; assists in establishing and
approving performance goals; provides input for performance appraisal
reviews; documents performance; and recommends disciplinary action.
Qualifications
- Advanced
knowledge of statistical/econometric modeling techniques and
methodologies, in order to resolve difficult technical challenges
- Extensive
experience with spreadsheet programs, advanced use of p.c. and mainframe
statistical applications/databases, and the ability to write customized
programs resulting in meaningful analysis of data.
- Required:
graduation from a four-year college or university, with major course work
in a discipline related to the duties of the position.
- Possession
of a Doctorate degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or
Economics is preferred.
- Two+
years directly related statistical modeling experience may be substituted,
on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the advanced
education.
