Puget Sound Chapter ASA Officers Election  (2008-2009)

  1. President
    • Active involvement in all chapter business
    • Call for chapter/dinner meetings: 3-4 times a year
      • One of these should be the "Annual Chapter Meeting" in Jan or
        Feb, at which we accept nominations.
    • Call for Career night: once a year, or alternate years
    • Find speakers: Look for statisticians (and related professionals) from industries and academia willing to speak at the meetings
    • Organize meetings: Suitable venue, reservation, equipments, ...
    • Communicate with local and national level ASA activities

  2. Vice President
    • Fill in for the president if needed
    • Work with the president in chapter activities
    • Help find speakers and arrange venues

  3. Secretary
    • Send announcements of various chapter and professional activities via email
    • Hold election for chapter officers: once a year
      • Collect nominations at annual chapter meeting and by email, and hold election by email.
      • If the current secretary is on the ballot and the election is contested, then email responses should be directed to  someone else.
    • Help chapter with various secretarial matters

  4. Treasurer
    • Maintain the chapter bank account: currently done in Quicken
    • Deposit monthly dues checks collected by the national office
    • Collect local dues for members that do not belong to the national ASA (we have very few of these)
    • At dinner meetings, collect attendee payments and pay the dinner bill. Deposit checks from the attendee payments in the chapter bank account.
    • When the chapter runs a short course (ASA Traveling course or other):
      • collect the advance registrations with payments via checks
      • make payments for the course (instructor, course facility, refreshments)
      • provide receipts to attendees for tax purposes
    • File an annual chapter accounting report with the national office

  5. Representative to the ASA Council of Chapters (appointed):
    • Attend the Joint Statistical Meetings
    • Attend the COC meetings at JSM held for chapter representatives
    • Report back to the local chapter
    • Submit the annual report to the ASA

  6. Student Representative (appointed):
    • Liaison between chapter and students
    • Administer chapter web site (this is the current practice, may change)

  7. All:
    • Participate in email discussions regarding meetings, short courses, chapter participation in judging at science fairs, and  other business.
    • Help recruit new volunteers.
