Professional Development Scholarship Program

One of the goals of the Professional Staff Organization is to foster professionalism and encourage professional development. PSO began its Professional Development Scholarship program in 1997 to encourage the professional development of professional staff members and to support PSO members when departmental funding is limited or not available. The Greg Stark Memorial Scholarship was added in 2005, in memory of PSO Board Member Greg Stark and specifically promoting professional staff members’ team-building and collaborative leadership skills.

Professional Development Scholarship

The Professional Development Scholarship may be used for professional development opportunities offered by UW Training and Development or other organizations, on or off campus, and may include expenses for classes, conferences, meetings, and workshops. Awards are limited to $350 per person per year.

Additional details, eligibility criteria, and application procedures are included in the PSO Scholarship Program Guidelines. Please review these guidelines prior to submitting your PSO Scholarship Application.

Greg Stark Memorial Scholarship

Promoting the development of team-building and collaborative leadership
skills for professional staff at the University of Washington.

The Professional Staff Organization Board established the Greg Stark Memorial Scholarship in memory of Greg Stark, a web computing specialist at the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine and a valued member of the PSO Board. Greg died in May 2005 when he was caught in a sudden snowstorm on Mount Rainier. Greg was universally liked by the people he worked with. He combined an upbeat, easy-going attitude with a strong work ethic and a passionate commitment to quality. Greg had a profound love for nature and was perhaps most at home fly-fishing on the Yakima River.

Although Greg will continue to be deeply missed by his friends and coworkers here at the UW, we hope to keep his memory alive in the form of this scholarship. Scholarship submissions should address how the proposed training or activity works toward enhancing team-building or collaborative leadership skills—qualities that Greg exemplified. Awards are limited to $350 per person per year.

Additional details, eligibility criteria, and application procedures are included in the PSO Greg Stark Memorial Scholarship Guidelines/Application. Please review these guidelines prior to submitting your application.
