Our Neuroscience Track provides motivated residents the opportunity to specialize in cutting edge research in addition to strong clinical training. We emphasize individualized mentorship, diverse research opportunities, and involvement in the wider neuroscience community in our department and the University of Washington. Recent Track participants have been involved in Clinical and Basic Neuroscience research projects involving topics such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), molecular genetics of developmental disorders, neuroimaging, and molecular neuroscience (wnt signaling, gene expression and behavior, neuroinflammation). About two thirds of track participants have combined MD/PhD degrees. Currently available research opportunities can be drawn from laboratories and research programs throughout the UW's vast neuroscience community. In particular, opportunities in molecular neuroscience, addiction, genetics, and genomics are available and being pursued by current track participants. Recent graduates of the Neuroscience track have been highly successful in establishing academic research careers. Over the past 8 years, most of our graduates went directly into research fellowship or faculty positions, 78% have academic faculty positions, most have obtained an individual research grant including nearly half with mentored K awards. If you are interested in applying to the Neuroscience Track, please indicate this on your application. For additional information, please contact the Director of the Neuroscience Track, John Neumaier, M.D., Ph.D..
