Seattle Area

View of Seattle Space Needle and Mount RainierLocated on Puget Sound, a 3-hour drive from the Pacific Ocean and one hour from the Cascade Mountain Range, Seattle is a pleasant and scenic city offering a wide range of cultural and recreational activities.

Cultural activities include theater, dance, ballet, opera, art museums, and rock concerts. Many fine restaurants offer regional and international specialties. Seattle is home to the Mariners (baseball), Seahawks (football), and Supersonics (basketball), and to the University of Washington Huskies sports teams. Recreational opportunities include backpacking, hiking, mountain climbing, downhill and cross country skiing, bicycling, kayaking, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, and more!

The Seattle metropolitan area is home to nearly 2 million people and is known for its parks and residential neighborhoods, many of which are close to the University of Washington campus and affiliated hospitals.

Seattle enjoys a relatively mild climate throughout the year, with average high temperatures of 47 degrees in November through February, and 72 degrees in June through August. The average rainfall is 36 inches, which is lower than that of many other major cities (e.g. Boston, New York, Washington D.C., Chicago).
