The John Butler Endowed Lectureship was established at the University of Washington School of Medicine following John's tragic death in a glider accident in 1992. Every year, the lectureship brings a leading pulmonary scientist to Seattle to interact with students, fellows and faculty to recall and honor John's devotion to teaching and research. The lectureship perpetuates the tradition of excellence in pulmonary research in the Division John founded at the University of Washington.
