American Lung Association --
Leonard D. Hudson, MD
Endowed Chair in
Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
========================================================
he creation and continuing evolution of the subspecialty known as Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is largely due to a handful of pioneering leaders. We, at the University of Washington Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, are fortunate to work and train with one of these leaders, Leonard D. Hudson, M.D. Len Hudson has profoundly influenced all of our lives. He has been a highly regarded clinician, teacher, researcher and leader in this field for more than three decades and has continuously worked to assure lung health at the local, national and international level. Len’s commitment and dedication to advances in pulmonary and critical care medicine have influenced this entire community of specialists. Of his many endeavors, Len is most proud of his fellowship training program that has developed more than 200 pulmonary and critical care physicians throughout the world, but especially here in the Pacific Northwest.
To recognize Len’s many contributions to pulmonary and critical care medicine as well as our Division, we are working with the American Lung Association of Washington to establish an endowed chair to be named in his honor. In addition to creating a lasting commemoration of the role he has played for all of us, the endowed chair will be a resource with which the Division can develop the next generation of leaders in our field.

Establishing an endowed chair:
To create an endowed chair, we need to raise $1.5 million by July 2010. To reach this goal, we have engaged the American Lung Association of Washington, which is equally committed to raising money for this honor. In addition, we have secured matching funds from the University of Washington, which will match 50 cents on each dollar raised.
