Research Focus

Justin's research interest is the clinical epidemiology of respiratory infections. He collaborates with the CDC to study the burden of severe influenza virus infection with grant support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. With PATH, Justin leads surveillance for an influenza vaccine clinical effectiveness trial in West Africa, and he collaborates on other vaccine trials in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. He received the Thrasher Research Fund Early Career Award to study whether exposure to indoor air pollution increases the risk of respiratory infections in rural Senegal. Justin has ongoing collaborations at the World Health Organization to develop guidelines, training, and evidence review to support critical care in resource limited settings. He also has been a consultant for WHO, CDC, PATH, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on topics of influenza and severe respiratory illness in resource limited settings.
