Complications

Common problems associated with tube feeding can include:

Medical attention should be sought when:

  • Tube comes out and will not go back in easily
  • Tube cannot be flushed
  • Bleeding through or around the tube
  • Thick drainage, redness, tenderness, skin breakdown around the tube
  • Excessive leakage around the tube
  • Child has persistent vomiting, diarrhea or constipation
  • Child’s temperature is > 101 F or 38.5 C
