Ally Week 2009 Approaching!
Get Ready For Ally Week 2009!
When? February 2nd through 5th
What? Ally Week involves a week of activities designed to celebrate allies and the LGBTIQueer people they support! It's a week of fun, education, and community building meant to teach and encourage people to be allies against anti-LGBT oppression.
Here is the schedule of events:
- Monday, Feb 2nd:
Safe Zone Training
HUB Rm 309
9am-12pmLearn tools to address power, privilege, and prejudice and work towards social justice within an anti-oppresive framework.
- Tuesday, Feb 3rd:
4th Annual Qolors Reception
Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC), Black Room
4pm-6pmThis event is to celebrate the multiple identities of queer people of color. Come for an evening of discussion, food, and good company with one another and our allies.
- Wednesday, Feb 4th:
Brown Bag: What is Allyship?
Q Center, Schmitz 450
12:30pm-2pmLearn what Allyship is, how to think critically about it, and how to be an Ally within and across many communities.
- Thursday, Feb 5th:
Bridging Voices: Queer Allyship Building Throught Art
Parnassus Cafe (UW Art building, basement)
6-7:30pmFeaturing: THEE Satisfaction, Dino Jamz, Slam poets from BENT...and MORE!!! There will be a sign-up for open mic during the event, BRING YOURS TO PERFORM! FREE ADMISSION. FREE FOOD.
