Optional – Attend informational Session (Learn more about program & fill out & turn in application on site) --TBD INFORMATION: We invite you to come WERQ it with us as participants and adult volunteers for a new annual organizing summer institute at the Work, Economic, Resources, and Queer (WERQ) Youth & Young Adult Summer Institute which is an eight (8) week summer program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5pm at the historic Washington Hall (153 14th Avenue. TIMELINE • Start Date: Tuesday, July 8, 2014 • End Date: Thursday, August 28, 2041 • Tuesdays, 3:00pm – 5:00pm – educational workshops • Thursdays, 3:00pm-5:00pm – multi-media, art, teaching artists, & guest speakers • @ Washington Hall (153 14th Avenue) in the Central District • optional dates for field trips to events Come learn about how to WERQ through • Civic Engagement and Organizing • Build and Share life skills and resilience • Learn about healthy relationships and communities • Alternative Histories of LGBTQ resistance and power • Utilize art that centers on LGBTQ folks from the margins like HipHop, vogue, fashion, posing, sassiness and more. HOW DO YOU WERQ IT? • YOU are interested in Social Justice & Economic Justice • YOU are interested in Organizing and building skills to forward your ideas • YOU are interested in queer-centered ART and art making • YOU are interested in learning about alternative and marginalized queer history • YOU like snacks and story sharing and connecting with others • YOU are interested in Life Skills, Job Skills, and • YOU are interested in being your whole self!!! WHO CAN APPLY? Anyone who self identifies as a youth and/or young adult who supports a vision for LGBTQ education, art, liberation, and justice. The program is LGBTQ-centered, but you do not have to identify as such to participate. Questioning, Allies, and Friends are encouraged to apply.
