Director, Entrepreneurial Training Program for Minority and Women, 11/94 - 6/98
Planned, organized, staffed, and directed workshops and seminars for minority- and women-owned businesses in Yakima County. Major activities included curriculum development, hiring and development of part-time instructors, records and budget administration, and business counseling.

Director, Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), 4/94 - 6/98
Established a SIFE Chapter to promote the free enterprise system. Major activities of the SIFE team included providing training in the free enterprise system and encouraging community service.

Project Evaluator, Agricultural Showcase, 8/94 - 12/95
The Agricultural Showcase was an annual event that took place in the late summer in Yakima, Washington. The primary focus was to promote sales of both agricultural products and technology to a greater number of untapped foreign markets. Major responsibilities included performing a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the Showcase accomplishments.

Director, Turkmenistan and Tajikstan Project, 11/95
Worked in conjunction with Washington State University, the Academy for Educational Development and NIS Exchanges and Training Project of the US Agency for International Development to provide a training program in Business Environments for twenty-nine participants from Turkmenistan and Tajikstan.

Director, Local Trade Assistance Network: Program, 10/94 - 6/95
Worked in conjunction with the Yakima County Trade Center to provide training for small- to mid-sized companies who were interested in exporting goods. Training included a review of topics such as various trade policies (FTA, NAFTA, GATT and WTO), Performa invoicing, cross-cultural considerations and market penetration strategies.

Director, Entrepreneurial Training Program, 3/92 - 6/95
Responsible for planning, organizing and staffing entrepreneurial training classes for dislocated workers in Yakima and Kittitas Counties. Major activities included: curriculum development, hiring and development of part-time instructors, records and budget administration and business counseling.

Project Evaluator, City of Yakima - Rebound Plus Program, 1/92 - 5/94
Major responsibilities included monitoring project for compliance to the goals and objectives as set by the Washington State Department of Community Development and preparing the final report including both qualitative and quantitative evaluations for the 1992 and 1993 funding cycle.

Project Evaluator, Yakima County Substance Abuse Coalition, 5/92 - 6/93
Major responsibilities included monitoring project to ensure that it was meeting the goals and objectives as set by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) and providing technical assistance for Yakima County Substance Abuse Coalition staff.

Director, Center for Minority Entrepreneurship, 2/90 - 1/91
Provided business counseling for women and minority entrepreneurs, including business plan development, marketing, and, financial and operations management.

  • Judge for the "Spirit of Excellence" award competition - an annual event organized by the Better Business Bureau of Central Washington to reward both small and large businesses in three categories: retail, service, and community service.

  • Member of Advisory Board - providing technical assistance in organizing the annual Women and Minorities Small Business Conference in Yakima.

  • Volunteer in Northwest and Southeast Yakima Neighborhood Associations - providing technical assistance to community members empowering them with the skills necessary to get back their neighborhoods from gang violence and drugs.


    SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

  • Invited by the Citizen Ambassador Program to lead an accounting and trade delegation to China, 1997.

  • Assisted in visioning, designing, and executing the Agricultural Showcase in Yakima County; an annual event which attracted top food importers to the Central Washington Region from all over the world.

  • Represented the small family farmers in the Agricultural Showcase - educational booth on the small family farmers was the featured booth in previous years.

  • Planned, organized, and exhibited Native American artifacts representing sixteen Pacific Northwest Regional tribes in a major mall in the Puget Sound Area. Over thirty exhibitors from the sixteen tribes participated in this showcase where they were given the opportunity to exhibit and sell their artifacts.


    AWARDS

  • Recognition Award as a Sam Walton Fellow for providing leadership during the 1996, 1997, and 1998 academic year to Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE). The 1997 team was the first ever from Washington State to win the regional competition and represent the Pacific Northwest at the International Competition in Kansas City.

  • Recognition Award for outstanding performance as a member of the Hispanic Farm Worker's Advisory Board, 1997.

  • Volunteer Service Award from the Administrator of the Agricultural Showcase in honor and recognition of dedication and esteemed service, 1995
