PicLens - wow!
The woods are full of Firefox add-ons but some recent ones are simply amazing. One of these is PicLens by Cooliris, a sort of sildeshow /rss photostream/viewer- um, thingamajig. PicLens easily lets you view feeds from Flickr, Google images and many more sites via an interface that is one of the most polished I’ve ever seen for viewing graphics. A 3d photo wall is created which pulls images from the pages / sites in real time. PicLens is a great example of Media RSS in action. For example, if you search Google images for ‘Eclipse’, PicLens will pull in *all* eclipse pictures (even beyond the ones on your current browser page).
The add-in (which is also now apparently available for Internet Explorer and Safari) installs in seconds and the interface is very intuitive (it does help to view the online demo). There are also separate add-ins available to display PicLens via a blog or webpage.
It is impossible to adequately show here, but if you are at all interested in photography/graphics or interfaces, PicLens is definitely worth trying out. I can think of a few potential library-like uses, but this app is mostly a ‘vision-raiser’.
