Hosted by the Polynesian Student Alliance at the University of Washignton, “Polynesian Day” or “Poly Day” as it is commonly known, is a celebration of the Polynesian culture. This is one of our most popular events that will showcase authentic music, dance and regalia from the Polynesian islands right at the heart of the UW campus. There will be workshops for high school students that will cover the university admissions process, key note speakers, Polynesian history and more! Around noon, the members of PSA will host the signature celebration of “PolyDay,” in honor of our heritage, on Red Square for all to attend. As we share our diverse Polynesian backgrounds through song and dance, we aim to inform the larger UW community of our presence, here on this campus, and that our issues, our concerns, and aspirations are not to be ignored. Most importantly, is that we show our young Polynesian high school students that there is an active P.I. community on the UW campus. This “family away from home” will be ready to receive and guide them through this college experience, that could be both exciting and daunting at the same time. Ultimately, PSA’s goal is to build and nurture a community/network of support that will produce a cohort of proud and established Polynesian/Pacific Islander scholars!
