Ambassador Profile
The award winning Student Outreach Ambassador Program is now accepting applications to fill
positions for the 2008-2009 school year. The Office of Minority Affairs provides excellent
opportunities for students interested in working with underrepresented high school, middle
school, and transfer students. Sophomores, juniors and seniors who have maintained a strong
academic record, exhibit excellent communication skills, enthusiasm for the UW, leadership
ability/potential, well-developed interpersonal skills and working knowledge of the issues
affecting underrepresented ethnic minority students are encouraged to apply. Active,
continuous involvement in multicultural programs and organizations on campus are desired.
We seek student leaders that can demonstrate their effectiveness at motivating student
volunteers to participate in outreach initiatives and objectives. Good speaking, writing and
organizational skills are required.
Type of Service
Student Ambassadors work as a team and collaboratively with the Office of Minority Affairs
Recruitment & Outreach staff to deliver educational outreach services to underrepresented
ethnic minority communities. Ambassadors are engaged in creative, empowerment-based
projects to encourage high school and middle school students to pursue higher education.
Ambassadors develop and assist with programs on campus and within target communities and
high schools to present diverse student perspectives, motivational workshops, and information
regarding the UW admissions process, financial aid, academic requirements, and University
resources.
Student Ambassadors support major recruitment and outreach programs sponsored by the
Office of Minority Affairs including; Native American Student Day (N.A.S.D.), Essence of
Success (E.O.S.), Readiness for Islander Success in Education (R.I.S.E.), Esperanza En
Educacíon (E.E.E.), Adelante Con Educacíon (A.C.E.), Young, Gifted & Black (Y.G.B.),
Minority Scholars Invitational, Diversity Scholars Day, Native American Transfer Day,UW
Admit and EAST to UW.
Employment Details
- Compensation: $9.50-10.00/hr.
- Working Hours: 12-15 hrs/week
- Employment period: September 26, 2008 through May 31, 2009
