Loan Deferment

General Information for Undergraduate, Graduate, and Professional Students

Generally, to be eligible for a loan deferment:
  • Undergraduates and professional (Law, Medical, Dental, Pharmacy) students must be registered for a minimum of 6 credits;
  • Graduate students must be registered for a minimum of 5 credits.
In order to receive a loan deferment, the borrower must request the deferment on the proper deferment request form. Include the following information on the form: your social security number, periods of verification, and your signature. Although not requested on the form, please include your student number in the top right corner of the form.


Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Mail loan deferment request to:

or hand deliver to the Transcript Office, 225 Schmitz Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


Medical Residents

Medical residents are eligible to receive a deferment for not more than 2 years effective January 1, 1990. Medical residents deferment forms should be sent or hand delivered to the School of Medicine.

The Medical School will certify residents as students prior to January 1, 1990 and as residents after that date.

Dental Residents

Dental residents are eligible to receive a deferment for not more than 2 years effective January 1, 1990. Dental resident deferment forms should be sent or hand delivered to the School of Dentistry.
