GENERAL HEALTH INFORMATION
The Medicine Plus web site is extremely comprehensive and easy to navigate with links to hundreds of authoritative sites. Many experts say this is the place to start your medical search on any condition.
The Mayo Clinic has a web site with information on health topics that is easy to understand, user-friendly with lots of advice on recognizing and dealing with health problems.
The Medem site contains wide-ranging information from the libraries of 44 professional medical associations as well as a free children's health newsletter.

LISTSERVS
Personal Care Assistance Mailing List: This e-mail discussion list for people who use personal care assistants (PCAs) focuses on locating, screening, and hiring PCAs, and serves as a forum for information and discussion on all aspects of PCA use and legislation. To join the list, send an e-mail message to listserv@maelstrom.stjohns.edu with only the words "Subscribe PCA" followed by your first and last names in the body of the message (do not include punctuation in the message).
Vent Users Mailing List: This Internet mailing list is a forum where ventilator users can communicate with one another. To join, fill out the online form at the website of list owner Jim Lubin.

The University of Washington offers a 24-hour, toll-free consultation and referral service for health care professionals and their clients with spinal cord injury. To contact MEDCON, dial 206-543-5300 if you live in the Seattle area or 800-326-5300 if you are calling long distance. An operator will direct your call to the physician or other health care professional best able to answer your question.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association site has extensive information on neuromuscular disorders, research information and many links to outside publications.

NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS
National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke web site has brief articles about various neurological disorders that are linked to the specific national associations. This is another site for clinicians and consumers and includes information on strokes, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, etc.

The American Chronic Pain Association web site is a good source of information for patients with chronic pain.
The National Pain Foundation provides an online educational and support community for persons in pain, their families, and physicians. The information on treatment is peer reviewed by pain specialists.

PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA
The Paralyzed Veterans of America site is for Veterans who have experienced spinal cord dysfunction (SCI). It has a good section on living with SCI which can be accessed by the public.
