Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

The Spinal Cord Injury Clinics offered at University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center offer both comprehensive rehabilitation and long-term health management for individuals who have sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI). Living with SCI can present many challenges that require specialized knowledge and intervention. Our rehabilitation team is prepared to help clients cope with these challenges, approaching each client as a unique individual with a unique set of problems and strengths. Our goal is to help our clients achieve a healthy, active lifestyle and sense of general well-being.

Because we are a part of the Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury System, we are able to provide multiple services, including comprehensive health evaluation and monitoring, psychological and vocational counseling, a monthly patient and family education series and a quarterly newsletter for health care professionals and individuals with SCI. We also provide expert wound care, in collaboration with the Department of Plastic Surgery, for patients with pressure sores after SCI.

Clinic Staff

The clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals who have experience working with people who have SCI. Evaluation and treatment are under the supervision of the Clinic Director, and each client is also seen by a resident physician who has completed his or her medical school training and is receiving special post-graduate training in Rehabilitation Medicine.
